The current market for small, medium, and micro scale LNG is one that is constantly expanding with the rest of the energy market. Small scale LNG was once a niche industry confined to LNG Satellite Facilities and Peakshavers. This industry has grown to include fossil fuel replacements for fleet vehicles and vessels, liquefaction of Coal Bed Methane sources, liquefaction from agricultural sources, biomass (landfill) gasses, and flare gas reclamation efforts.

Salof/ Kryopak are leading the industry in the creation of viable LNG projects from these, once wasted sources, providing saleable co-products and a reduction in green house emissions.

Flare Gas Reclamation

Beihai XinAo Gas Company Ltd.IMG_3139

Beihai XinAo Gas Company Ltd., commissioned the design and build of a flare reclamation facility on a small isolated island named Weizhou located 30 Km off the coast of Beihai in the South China Sea. This facility utilizes the patented Kryopak EXP Cycle to liquefy 150,000 NM3 into 120 metric tons of final LNG product for consumption in mainland China.

This liquid product is ferried in tanker trucks to the Port of Beihai where it is vaporized and distributed to the downstream users.

Using Kryopak Liquefaction technology these customers were able to eliminate flaring of green house gasses while creating a highly profitable and saleable co-product.

Virtual Pipeline

Energy Developments Limited (EDL)

Australian firm Energy Developments Limited (EDL) engaged Salof / Kryopak to design, build, and commission an LNG facility in Karratha, Western Australia. This 300,000 NM3 liquefaction facility produces 200 metric tons of finished product each day, which is then delivered via Road-Train to small communities in North-Western Australia at distances of 2000 Km.DSC00768

This “Virtual Pipeline” served the needs of these remote communities while a pipeline expansion project was executed in parallel. The ability to transport large quantities of LNG from the liquefaction facility to the final destination helped to create an “economy of Scale” that supported the large distances that the final product was carried.

This facility uses a Kryopak Pre-Cooled Mixed Refrigerant Cycle (PCMR) to create a final product that conforms to vehicle fuel quality (95MN). The prime movers that haul the LNG are powered by the same fuel they carry.

Kryopak has extended the Small Scale LNG value chain to reach even greater distances with the “virtual pipeline”


Natural Gas Pre-Treatment

Midrex – Saudi Arabia / Midrex – Libya

United States EPC firm Midrex selected Kryopak to design and build a heavy hydrocarbon removal plant to pre-treat pipeline quality gas for consumption by a subsequent process. The LPG facility supplied by Kryopak ensured that the 50 MMscfd of product gas flowing through the plant was free of heavy hydrocarbons as defined by the customer’s specification to mitigate damage to equipment further downstream in the process.DSC00149

 

Dew Point Control

Murphy Oil – Malaysia

Murphy Oil, Malaysia used Salof/Kryopak technology to reduce the size of their offshore gas platforms, while simultaneously reducing the required size of their pipeline and increasing condensate yield.

Natural Gas Chilling units installed offshore East Malaysia dehydrate and control the dew point of natural gas leaving the subsea wells, headed for shore. The gas “chillers” provide closed loop fully automatic mechanical refrigeration to optimize the collection natural gas liquids, known as condensate, for blending into the company’s crude oil production.

The product gas is chilled to a dew point that is below the sea water temperatures to eliminate liquids forming in the transmission pipeline. Upon delivery to the onshore receiving facility the product gas enters an additional chilling unit that provides temperature control, before custody is transferred to the final customer as an LNG source gas._DSC1423
